List of Banned Words and Expressions

Here's the real list of banned words on Twitch, updated according to Twitch policy and moderation practice:

  • Racial hatred: nigger, nigga, nigеr, nigеr\, and similar.
  • Ethnic slurs: various ethnic slurs.
  • Insults based on sexual orientation.
  • Mental health slurs: retard, autist, and similar.
  • Internet slang: simp, virgin, incel — Twitch includes them in the blacklist.
  • Also, all Twitch bans include other words with negative connotations, such as profanity and swearing without the "18+" flag.

Context Selection and Ban Formulation

Twitch indicates that violations are classified into three levels: warning, temporary ban, permanent ban. Even mentioning banned content in a joking manner can trigger moderation response. Good practice is to immediately say "I condemn" after an unwanted phrase.

Extended List of Prohibited Behavior

Twitch also prohibits:

  • Insults based on orientation, nationality, religion, disability.
  • Discussion of banned organizations and extremism.
  • Hints at suicide and discussion of suicidal topics.
  • The ban extends to words and phrases even if mentioned without malicious intent.

Content Prohibited for Streaming

Also prohibited on Twitch streams:

  • Scenes with violence, blood, cruelty.
  • Pornographic materials or showing genitals.
  • Video games with open sexual content and uncensored profanity — Twitch immediately blocks such streams.

Age Restrictions

Only users over 13 years old can stream on Twitch. Any message from an account younger than this age leads to blocking or account deletion. It's recommended to activate the 18+ filter if using profanity.

Copyright Violations

Twitch is strict about DMCA: using music, videos, or images without permission is a direct cause of ban or strike. Even streaming copyrighted content can cause instant blocking.

Other Reasons for Blocking

Prohibited to discuss pirated content, illegal actions, interference with legislation. Also prohibited are overly provocative clothing on stream and using someone else's identity.

Frequent Use of Profanity

Twitch distinguishes between "light" profanity and aggressive profanity. The former may allow swearing in evening streams with the 18+ filter enabled. But aggressive profanity leads to a ban. It's recommended to establish strict moderation, including auto-suppression of profanity outbursts.

Follow the rules, periodically check the current list of banned words on Twitch and watch the context — and your stream will be safe and pleasant for everyone.
