# Poll or prediction: which one do you need?
Both are listed together under Engagement in Kick's chat command reference.[1] They do different jobs. Kick's moderation guide says polls "are great for letting Viewers vote on what happens next in your stream — game choices, decisions, opinions." It describes predictions differently: they "allow Viewers to use Channel Points to bet on outcomes during your stream."[2]
| Вопрос | Poll | Prediction |
|---|---|---|
| Start command | /poll | /prediction |
| Who can start it | Owner and mods | Owner and mods |
| Needs Channel Points on | Not stated by Kick | Да |
| Viewers spend points | Not stated by Kick | Yes, 10 to 250,000 |
| Number of options | Not stated by Kick | Exactly 2 |
| Voting window | Not stated by Kick | 1, 5, 10 or 30 min |
| Remove it | /polldelete | Delete, points refunded |
The "Not stated by Kick" cells are honest gaps. Kick's Help Center pages read for this guide describe /poll only as opening a creation window. They do not list the fields in that window, a maximum number of options or a poll length. Kick's Help Center ties predictions to Channel Points in plain words.[3] None of the pages read for this guide says the same about polls. So pick a poll for a quick opinion vote and a prediction when you want viewers to have something at stake.
# How to make a poll on Kick
- Open your channel's chat on Kick while logged in as the channel owner or as one of its moderators.[1]
- Type /poll and send it. Kick's description of the command is "Prompts poll creation window".[1] If you forget the name, type a forward slash on its own. Kick says: "Available commands will appear automatically."[1]
- Fill in the window and start the poll. Write the question and the answers viewers will pick from. Kick's Help Center does not document the form itself, so go by what the window shows you.
- Remove it if you need to. /polldelete "Deletes currently active poll".[1]
A practical tip for wording: the question and the answers are read in a moving chat, so keep each answer to a few words. "Next game: A or B" works. A paragraph per option does not. If you want the poll to decide something on stream, say out loud what you will do with the result before you start it, and then do it. A poll you ignore teaches chat not to vote next time.
On Twitch the same tool is set up differently; if you stream on both, our Twitch polls guide covers that side.
# How to make a prediction on Kick
Predictions only exist on channels that use Channel Points. Kick's predictions guide says: "The Predictions feature is now available by default to any channel that has Channel Points enabled."[3] So step one is the switch.
Step 1: turn on Channel Points
Kick says: "You can manage your program through the Streamer Dashboard. To enable Channel Points, toggle the Channel Points option."[6] Turning it on also gives you one default reward, Hydrate, at 500 points.[6] Viewers then earn points while they watch; Kick's rate for a regular viewer is "10 points every 5 minutes".[7] That matters for predictions, because 10 points is the minimum a viewer can put in.[5]
Step 2: start the prediction
- Type /prediction in your chat. "Streamers and their Moderators can start a Prediction by using the /prediction chat command. A Prediction setup modal will appear."[3]
- Fill in the fields. "Enter your Prediction title, the two possible outcomes, and the length of the voting period."[3]
- Pick the voting period. Kick's Channel Points Terms list four choices: 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes or 30 minutes.[5]
- Reuse an old one if you run the same bet often. Kick says you can pick a past prediction from the Past History Predictions drop-down to pre-fill the fields.[3]
- Start it. Viewers see a banner at the top of chat and click Predict to open the prediction panel.[4]
What viewers see: the percentage split, the two outcomes, and for each one the points entered, the number of voters and the current return ratio.[4] "Once you have confirmed your Prediction, you will not be able to change your vote for the current Prediction." A viewer can keep adding points, "but only to your already selected outcome."[4] If you explain this in chat before you start, you will get fewer "I clicked the wrong one" messages.
# Ending, deleting and resolving a prediction
Type /prediction again while one is active and Kick shows the management view.[3] What you can do depends on whether voting is still open.
| When | Your options | What happens to points |
|---|---|---|
| Voting still open | Delete, or end submissions early | Delete refunds everyone |
| Voting closed | Delete, or Choose Outcome | Winners share the pool |
| Nobody resolves it | Nothing to do | Refunded after 24 hours |
| Already resolved | Cannot cancel | Stays distributed |
In Kick's words, while voting is open "You can delete the Prediction, which will refund all points, or end submissions early." After it closes you can delete it or "proceed to choose the outcome of the Prediction."[3] Winners get points "distributed proportionately to the Viewers who predicted correctly."[3] A viewer who leaves the stream still gets paid if they were right.[5]
Two details are worth knowing. First, the Terms say you can cancel an unresolved prediction "where neither outcome is correct or the event did not proceed", but "The Streamer will not be able to cancel a Prediction after it has been resolved and points have already been distributed to participating Users."[5] So check the result before you click. Second, the 24-hour refund is worded slightly differently in two places. The help article says "If you do not select an outcome within 24 hours, all points will be refunded."[3] The Terms count the 24 hours from the end of the voting period.[5] Either way, an unresolved prediction refunds itself.
# Running polls and predictions as a mod
Kick's command list marks /poll, /polldelete and /prediction as "Channel Owners + Moderators".[1] Its moderation guide lists "Start and manage polls" among the things moderators can do.[2] If you are not a moderator yet, the channel owner adds you with /mod and your username; our Kick moderator guide covers that and the rest of the mod toolkit.
The one catch is predictions. A moderator may place points, but then loses the right to settle it: "any moderator who participates in a Prediction is no longer able to resolve the Prediction. If all moderators participate in a Prediction, then the Streamer will need to resolve the Prediction."[5] If your channel leans on mods to settle predictions while the streamer is busy in a game, agree beforehand which mod sits out.
# Why /poll or /prediction is not working
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Command does nothing | Not owner or mod | Ask the owner to /mod you |
| Command does nothing | Typo in the command | Type / and pick from list |
| /prediction missing | Channel Points off | Toggle it in the Dashboard |
| Cannot start a second one | One already running | Resolve or delete it first |
| Mod cannot resolve | That mod placed points | Another mod or the owner |
| Viewer cannot predict | Under 10 points | Watch longer to earn points |
Kick's own checklist for a failing command is to check "Spelling and exact format (commands are case-sensitive in some cases)", whether you have permission, and whether the channel state allows it. If it still fails, Kick suggests: "Try refreshing your chat or logging out and back in if a command keeps failing."[1] For the points minimum, the Terms say a user without at least 10 points "cannot participate (unless or until that User has 10 Points)."[5]
If you cannot type in the chat at all, the problem is not the poll. See why you can't chat on Kick.
Polls work better with people in the room.
Streamrise sells Kick viewers. Your channel link only, no password, and you set the speed and window, from 30 minutes to a month. Kick's Community Guidelines prohibit "Bots, engagement manipulation, or third-party tools that artificially inflate views, followers, or interactions".[8] Read them and decide for yourself.

# The bottom line
For a quick vote, type /poll in your Kick chat and fill in the window; /polldelete removes it.[1] Owners and moderators can both do it.[2] When you want viewers to put Channel Points on an outcome, switch on Channel Points and use /prediction: a title, two outcomes, a 1 to 30 minute window, and one prediction at a time.[3][5] Settle it carefully, because a resolved prediction cannot be cancelled.[5]

Do Kick polls cost viewers Channel Points?
Kick's help pages describe only predictions as using Channel Points. They do not say that polls use points or need Channel Points switched on.
