Can you get a refund on Twitch? Sometimes, and where you ask depends on how you paid

Twitch may refund a recurring sub at its discretion. Gift subs, cheered Bits and used Sub Tokens come back only for a technical issue, fraud or where the law requires it. iPhone purchases go to Apple, not Twitch

Twitch's Terms of Sale say no refunds. Twitch's help page says limited refunds are possible. Both are current, and the gap between them is where most refund questions sit. This guide puts the two side by side, shows where to send each request, and marks what nobody outside Twitch can confirm.

In one minute: Yes, sometimes. Twitch can refund a recurring sub or Turbo at its discretion, and it refunds most purchases when there was a technical issue, fraud, or a legal requirement. On subs, Twitch says: "We may offer limited refunds on purchases of recurring subscriptions." It adds that it looks mainly at "historical refund requests from purchasers' accounts", and that the decision is "solely within Twitch's discretion."[1] Gift subs and cheered Bits have no discretionary route, only the technical, fraud and legal exceptions.[1] Ask Twitch Support for web and Android purchases. Ask Apple for anything bought in the iPhone app.[1]

  • 24 часаbefore the renewal date is the latest you can cancel a sub or Turbo to avoid the next charge.
  • 10 рабочих дняis how long Twitch says an issued refund takes to reach your original payment method.
  • 14 днейis the EU and UK withdrawal period in Twitch's legal notice. For digital content it can end sooner.
  • 2 placesto send a request: Twitch Support for web and Android, Apple for the iPhone app.

# What Twitch will and will not refund

Twitch's refund page splits purchases into six cases: recurring subscriptions, gift subscriptions, Bits, gift cards, unauthorized transactions and technical issues.[1] The rules are not the same for each. Only recurring subscriptions get a discretionary route, where Twitch can say yes even when nothing went wrong.[1]

Sources for the table: on subs, Twitch says it does not refund them "except in circumstances where technical issues impact the purchase or benefits relating to a subscription, where the purchase of a subscription was fraudulently made, or where otherwise required by law", on top of the limited discretionary refunds.[1] On gifts: "Gift subscriptions are not refundable except where the purchaser experienced a technical issue with the purchase, the purchase was fraudulently made, or where otherwise required by law." On Bits: "If Bits are purchased and Cheered, this action cannot be reversed / refunded except for technical issues, suspected fraudulent activity with a particular purchase, or where otherwise mandated by law."[1] On tokens, the Terms of Sale: "Tokens that have been used or redeemed will not be returned."[2] On gift cards, Twitch says it "cannot process refunds for unredeemed gift cards purchased from third-party retailers". On unauthorized charges: "We may refund transactions that we determine were made without the user's authorization".[1]

# How to request a refund, by where you paid

Where you ask depends on where you paid, not on what you bought. Twitch tells you to work that out from the invoice, which goes to your Twitch email for web purchases and to your app store email for mobile purchases.[1]

  1. Find the receipt. Check your inbox and spam folder for it, then match the invoice ID to the table above.[1]
  2. Web or Android: log in to the Twitch Help Portal and open the refund request form. Twitch says you may need to pick dropdown entries, for example "Subscriptions" and then "Refund Request" for a recurring sub.[1]
  3. Android buyers: add the Google Play invoice number. Twitch is explicit: "Twitch Support handles all refund requests for Twitch products purchased through the Android app or Google Play Store." And: "Do not contact Google Play support for Twitch purchase refunds."[1]
  4. iPhone and iPad buyers: go to Apple. Twitch says "Apple handles support matters regarding such purchases directly, and Apple's refund policy will apply."[1] Apple's own steps: sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com, choose "I'd like to", then "Request a refund", pick a reason and the item, and submit.[4]
  5. Wait. Twitch: "If a refund is issued, funds will be issued to your original payment method within 10 business days."[1] Apple says to wait 24 to 48 hours for an update on your request, and that approved money may take longer to arrive.[4]

# Subs and Turbo: cancel first, then ask

A refund request does not stop the next charge. Cancelling does. Twitch's Terms of Sale: "You must cancel your Subscription Service at least 24 hours before its renewal date to avoid being charged for the next subscription period."[2] The help page says the same, and points you to the "Do Not Renew" option in your Subscription settings. Your renewal date is shown on your Subscriptions page.[1] After you cancel, the sub keeps running to the end of the period you paid for.[2]

Then decide whether to ask for money back. For a sub that simply renewed when you did not want it, the only route is the discretionary one. Twitch: "We may offer limited refunds on purchases of recurring subscriptions. When reviewing refund requests, we primarily look at historical refund requests from purchasers' accounts and actions taken with respect to those requests. Decisions whether to refund a subscription purchase are solely within Twitch's discretion."[1] The page does not say how many past requests is too many, or what share of requests it grants. Nobody outside Twitch can tell you your odds.

Turbo follows the same rules as channel subs. Twitch's refund page names "channel subscriptions and Turbo" together as recurring subscriptions.[1] What Turbo includes and what it costs is in the Twitch Turbo guide. If you subscribed in a phone app, cancelling also happens in the app store; the mobile subscriptions guide covers those screens.

# Gift subs, Bits, Sub Tokens and gift cards

These are the purchases people most often regret, and the ones Twitch is strictest about. There is no discretionary route for them on Twitch's refund page. The only exceptions it lists are a technical issue, fraud, or a legal requirement.[1]

  • Gift subs start at once. Twitch says the recipient gets the benefits "immediately after your purchase is completed", which is why it treats the gift as delivered.[1] A duplicate purchase caused by an error is a technical issue; a change of mind is not.[1] For how gifting works, see what gifted subs on Twitch are.
  • Cheered Bits cannot be taken back outside those three exceptions.[1] The Terms of Sale also say: "Except as required by applicable law in your jurisdiction, Digital Content is non-refundable." Bits are listed there as Digital Content.[2] Twitch's refund page does not mention Bits you bought but have not cheered yet. For cheering itself, read the guide to cheering with Bits.
  • Sub Tokens: "Tokens that have been used or redeemed will not be returned."[2]
  • Gift cards bought in a shop are the retailer's business, under the retailer's policy. If you spent a redeemed gift card balance on Twitch, Twitch's normal refund rules apply to what you bought.[1]

# EU and UK: the 14-day right of withdrawal

If you live in the EU, the EEA or the UK and bought as a consumer, there is a second route that does not depend on Twitch's discretion. The Terms of Sale say you "may have a right to withdraw from or cancel the agreement for purchase of Ancillary Products and Services under these Terms of Sale within a specific cooling-off period."[2] Twitch's withdrawal notice sets it out: "You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason."[3]

The catch is in the same notice. For digital content, "your right of withdrawal shall expire when performance has begun", if you agreed to start straight away, acknowledged that you would lose the right, and got a confirmation on a durable medium such as email.[3] For services, you may owe a share in proportion to what was already provided.[3] Whether a given sub, gift or Bits purchase counts as content or service, and whether checkout asked for that consent, is not stated on the pages read for this guide.

  1. Act within 14 days of the purchase. For digital content and services, the period runs from the day the contract was concluded.[3]
  2. Tell Twitch clearly. The notice says to inform Twitch "by an unequivocal statement", for example by letter or email to support@twitch.tv, and offers a model withdrawal form you may use but do not have to.[3]
  3. Expect the same payment method back. Twitch says it will reimburse "not later than 14 days" from when it is told, using the original means of payment unless you agreed otherwise.[3]

# Why a chargeback is the riskiest route

A chargeback means asking your bank, card issuer or PayPal to reverse the payment instead of asking Twitch. Some guides suggest it.[7] Twitch's terms describe what can follow. Twitch may suspend or cancel your access to any Subscription Service "if your Payment Method (or its agent or affiliate) causes the return of payments previously made to Twitch when you are liable for the charges".[2] The refund page adds: "Twitch reserves the right to restrict purchase access or suspend accounts that are found to be in violation of our refund policies."[1]

# Subscribed to a channel that got banned?

In April 2025, Tubefilter reported that some subscribers had kept paying for subs to permanently banned channels. Twitch's statement in that report: "In line with Twitch policy, when a channel is deleted or is indefinitely suspended, subscriptions to that channel are not renewed." Twitch called the cases edge cases, and Tubefilter wrote that "emails are going out to notifying people that their subscriptions have been cancelled and they can expect refunds".[5]

That is a news report from 2025, not a rule on Twitch's refund page, which does not mention banned channels.[1] If you were charged for a sub to a channel that was already banned, the closest match on that page is a technical issue, which Twitch says includes "missing benefits".[1] Send it to Twitch Support with the channel name and the charge date.

# Where popular guides disagree with Twitch

A web search for Twitch refund policy run for this guide on 28 October 2026 returned a Streamers Playbook post titled "Are Twitch Donations Refundable?". It was last updated in 2022, and several of its lines no longer match what Twitch publishes.

Streamers Playbook's guide next to Twitch's pagesSources: Streamers Playbook (August 15, 2022), Twitch Help, Refunds on Twitch, and Twitch Terms of Sale. All read 28 October 2026

The quotes behind the rows. Streamers Playbook: "Twitch donations such as subs, gifted subs or Twitch bits are NOT refundable on Twitch", and "if you donated to a streamer using your credit card or PayPal then you may be able to work with those companies to receive a chargeback for your donation." It quotes an older Terms of Sale line: "cancellations are not permitted after a purchase, and we do not offer any refunds or credits".[7] Twitch's help page today: "We may offer limited refunds on purchases of recurring subscriptions."[1] On chargebacks and EU withdrawal, see Sections 6 and 5.[2][3] The blanket no is half right: it fits gifts and cheered Bits outside the exceptions, and does not fit recurring subs.

# For streamers: the refunds you control

Refunds of subs, gifts and Bits are between the buyer and Twitch or Apple. Twitch's refund page is written for the purchaser and does not describe any step for the streamer.[1] Two kinds of refund are in your hands, and both have their own guides here: giving back Channel Points for a reward you will not fulfil, covered in the Channel Points guide, and cancelling a prediction, covered in the predictions guide. Tips sent through PayPal or a third-party tip page run on that service's rules, not Twitch's; the Twitch donations guide covers them.

# The bottom line

A Twitch refund is possible but rarely automatic. Cancel a sub or Turbo at least 24 hours before renewal, then ask Twitch Support if you want the last charge back, knowing the answer is Twitch's call.[2][1] Gift subs and cheered Bits come back only for a technical issue, fraud or the law.[1] Paid in the iPhone app? Ask Apple. Paid on Android? Ask Twitch, not Google.[1] In the EU or UK, check the 14-day withdrawal route before anything else.[3] And think twice before a chargeback.[2]

Turbo is a recurring subscription, so the same rules as channel subs apply: limited refunds at Twitch's discretion, plus technical, fraud and legal exceptions.

How do I request a refund on Twitch?

For web and Android purchases, log in to the Twitch Help Portal and use the refund request form. For purchases in the iPhone or iPad app, request it from Apple.

Twitch says an issued refund reaches your original payment method within 10 business days. Apple says to expect an update on a request within 24 to 48 hours.

Do EU or UK users get a 14-day refund on Twitch?

Twitch's withdrawal notice gives consumers there 14 days to withdraw, but for digital content the right can end once delivery has begun with their consent.

What happens if I do a chargeback on Twitch?

Twitch may suspend or cancel your subscriptions when a payment is returned, and says it can restrict purchases or suspend accounts that break its refund policies.

Do you get refunded if a streamer gets banned?

Twitch has said subs to indefinitely suspended channels are not renewed. In 2025 it refunded some viewers charged after such bans. If it happens to you, contact Twitch Support.
