# How to delete your Twitch account
Twitch's help page sends you to one place: "To delete your Twitch account, visit the Delete Account page."[1] That page lives at twitch.tv/user/delete-account, the same address Twitch's privacy page gives.[3] It only works while you are logged in. When Streamrise opened it logged out on 9 October 2026, Twitch showed a log-in form instead.[10]
- Log in to the account you want to delete on twitch.tv. If you have more than one account, check which one you are logged in to.
- Open twitch.tv/user/delete-account. This is the Delete Account page Twitch's help article links to.[1]
- Check the account name on the page. Twitch: "Make sure you are deleting the correct account, enter a reason for deletion, then click Delete Account."[1]
- Add a reason, or skip it. Twitch says giving a reason is optional.[1]
- Click Delete Account. Then stay logged out. Logging back in while Twitch is still processing the request stops it.[1]
# Delete or disable: which one you want
Twitch describes disabling as "a temporary solution if you need a break" and says "You can recover a disabled account."[1] The two actions also start in different places: disabling is a link in your Profile Settings, deleting is its own page.[1]
| Disable | Delete | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you do it | Profile Settings, Disable Account | The Delete Account page |
| Can you undo it? | Yes, by logging back in | Only by logging in before Twitch finishes |
| Your content | Hidden from viewers | Erased within 90 days |
| Your subs | Set to cancel, no further charges | Canceled, cannot be restored |
| How long it lasts | Until you log in, but may be purged later | Permanent |
The quotes behind the rows. On disabling: "If you change your mind at a later time, you can reactivate your account by simply logging back into your account." On subs: "If you temporarily deactivate your Twitch account, your subscriptions are set to cancel, and Twitch will not attempt to collect payment." and "If you permanently delete your Twitch account, your subscriptions are canceled." On how long a disabled account lasts: "Disabled accounts may be purged after a period of time."[1] Twitch gives no length for that period.
# What happens in the 90 days after you click
Deleting is not instant. Twitch's timeline is: "Within 90 days of your request, Twitch will permanently erase all your content and close your account. The deletion process will terminate if you log back into your account while we still are processing your deletion request."[1] So 90 days is the most it should take, not a fixed waiting period.
| Item | What Twitch says happens |
|---|---|
| Clips, highlights, settings | Deleted with your profile |
| User rewards | Deleted |
| Usage data and your content | Deleted |
| Your subscriptions | Canceled, cannot be restored |
| Your username | Recycled after at least 6 months |
| Some personal data | May be kept where law or security requires |
Sources for the table. Twitch: "This will delete all your content and profile information including clips, highlights, user rewards, and settings." and "Deleting your account also stops the processing of new personal data, deletes your profile and other identifying data such as usage data, and user generated content, in accordance with Your Privacy Rights." It also warns: "In some cases, Twitch may retain limited personal data for legal, security and other reasons permitted or required under applicable law."[1] Twitch's privacy page says the same in other words: "If you close your account, Twitch may retain other information about you for the activities described in our Privacy Notice, or as permitted or required by applicable law."[3]
Twitch's pages do not list chat messages or whispers by name. The deletion page speaks of "user generated content" in general.[1] We found nothing on the pages read for this guide that says whether messages you sent in other people's chats stay visible in their saved chat logs.
# Four things to do before you delete
- Request a copy of your data, and wait for it. Twitch: "Reports are completed within 14 days." You ask from the Download Your Data section of your privacy settings, and "This feature is available for users on desktop."[4] The report is split into folders such as your chat messages, minutes watched and follows. It does not include whispers: "Whispers history is not supported in this data report."[4]
- Save any clips or VODs you want to keep. Deletion removes clips and highlights with the rest of your content.[1] How to download past broadcasts is in our Twitch VOD guide.
- Check your multi-month subs. If one is mid-term, the creator loses the final month's revenue if your deletion is processed first.[1]
- Check which apps use your Twitch login. Your Connections settings show them. Twitch: "Here you can review all of the applications which have been authorized for your account, and you can revoke authorization for an application or website by clicking the Disconnect link on the relevant row."[11] Look through that list so you know which services relied on the account. Our account settings reference shows where it sits.
# Affiliates and Partners: offboard first
If your channel is monetized, the Delete Account option may simply not be there for you. Twitch: "Before a Partner or Affiliate account can be deleted or disabled it must first be offboarded. Please contact Customer Support here for assistance with offboarding."[1] Its FAQ answers the question people search for: "Why don't I have the option to delete/disable my account?" The reason given is the same offboarding step.[1]
Twitch's help page does not say how long offboarding takes. The Monetized Streamer Agreement, which Affiliates and Partners accept, has a general exit clause: either side "may terminate this Agreement at any time, with or without cause, by giving the other party 30 days’ prior written notice of termination."[5] Whether Support applies that full notice to an offboarding request is not stated on the pages read for this guide, so plan for it and ask when you contact them.
Staying on Twitch instead?
Streamrise sells Twitch live viewers. Pick the count and window in the dashboard, from 30 minutes to a month, and paste your channel link: no password, no OAuth, no 2FA token. Twitch's help pages call fake engagement and artificial inflation of channel statistics violations of its policies. Read them and decide for yourself.
- Starts within minutes
- No password, no OAuth, no 2FA token
- Per-minute delivery log
# Deleting an account you cannot log in to
The Delete Account page needs you logged in.[10] If you lost the password, first try to get back in, then delete the normal way. If that fails, Twitch's privacy page gives a second route: "You can close your account and delete your information by accessing https://www.Twitch.tv/user/delete-account, or by submitting a Support request under 'Privacy Questions'."[3]
- Open Twitch Support's contact form from the help site.[3]
- Choose the 'Privacy Questions' category and ask for the account to be closed and your information deleted.[3]
- Be ready to prove it is yours. Twitch says it may ask for "additional information necessary to verify your identity (such as your IP address, date of birth, transaction IDs, and email address) before responding to your request."[3]
# Deleting on a phone or in the app
Twitch's help article gives one route, the Delete Account web page, and does not describe deleting inside the iPhone or Android app.[1] The route that matches Twitch's own instructions on a phone is to open twitch.tv/user/delete-account in the phone's browser, log in, and follow the same steps as in Section 1.
Apple's rules suggest the iPhone app should have its own route too. Apple's App Review Guidelines say: "If your app supports account creation, you must also offer account deletion within the app."[6] That is a rule Apple sets for app makers, not a description of the Twitch app. We did not test the app for this guide, so we do not list in-app menu steps.
# Your username, and coming back
Deleting does not free your name for a new account straight away. Twitch: "In most cases, if you close one account you will not be able to immediately reuse or transfer that username to a different account." Then: "After you delete your account, your old username will be recycled. It will take a minimum of 6 months for this process to complete."[1] Twitch's username policy gives the same window in days: names "abandoned by non-Partnered accounts will take at least 180 days before they are available to reclaim again through self-service."[2]
| Your situation | What Twitch says |
|---|---|
| Deleted, still within the processing time | Log back in and the deletion stops |
| Deleted and completed | Account cannot be recovered |
| Want the same name on a new account | Not right away; recycling takes at least 6 months |
| Channel was banned by Twitch | Name generally kept out of use for good |
The last row comes from Twitch's username policy: "In general, usernames associated with a channel that was banned by Twitch are excluded and permanently inaccessible, except in limited circumstances decided by Twitch."[2] For other names, Twitch says only: "Eventually, that username will be added to the pool of available usernames." Nothing on that page says you get first claim on it.[1] If a ban is why you are leaving, read how long a Twitch suspension lasts before you delete anything.
# Where popular guides disagree with Twitch
Google's first two pages for how to delete twitch account, checked on 9 October 2026, are mostly Twitch's own pages, YouTube videos and forum threads. The written guides from outside Twitch are DeleteMe on page one, and How-To Geek, TechRadar and Business Insider on page two. We read DeleteMe and How-To Geek in full and did not check the other two line by line. Both guides we read say things that do not match Twitch's help page as it reads today.
| Question | The guide says | Twitch says |
|---|---|---|
| Does Disable Account delete you? (DeleteMe) | Yes | No, they are separate actions |
| Can you re-register the same name? (How-To Geek) | Yes | Not right away; at least 6 months |
| Do disabled accounts keep billing subs? (How-To Geek) | Cancel first to avoid charges | Subs are set to cancel, no payment taken |
The quotes behind the rows. DeleteMe's walkthrough has you click Disable Account and then ends: "You have deleted your Twitch account."[7] How-To Geek: "you can reregister your account using the same user ID, should you wish to do so." and "Don't forget to end any active Twitch Prime subscriptions and any other paid channel subscriptions first to ensure that you don't get charged while your account is disabled."[8] Twitch: "Deleting and disabling your Twitch account are separate actions.", the six-month minimum for recycling a name, and "If you temporarily deactivate your Twitch account, your subscriptions are set to cancel, and Twitch will not attempt to collect payment."[1] How-To Geek's article is dated 2020, so it may describe Twitch as it was then. Twitch's page is the current word.
# The bottom line
Deleting a Twitch account takes a minute: log in, open the Delete Account page, confirm and click.[1] The planning is in what comes before and after. Get your data report first, because it can take 14 days.[4] Offboard first if you are an Affiliate or Partner. Stay logged out for up to 90 days if you mean it, and expect your username to stay out of reach for at least 6 months.[1] If you only need a break, disable instead.

Twitch says it will erase your content and close the account within 90 days of your request. Logging back in during that time stops it.
