# How to change your username on Kick
Kick's article on updating your profile puts the username in the Basic Details part of the Profile Information page, at kick.com/settings/profile, and describes that part as the place to "Personalise your KICK account by updating your bio and username."[1] Its viewer profile articles give the route by menu instead: click your avatar in the top right corner, go to your account settings and open the profile section.[3][4]
- Turn on 2FA if it is not on yet. Kick requires it for a username change. Section 3 has the steps.[2]
- Open kick.com in a browser and sign in. On a phone, use the browser rather than the app.[6]
- Go to your Profile Information page. Click your avatar, open your account settings, then the profile section, or go straight to kick.com/settings/profile.[3][1]
- Find Username under Basic Details and type the new name. If Kick says it is taken, Kick's own advice from its sign-up article applies: "Try a variation, add numbers, or pick something different".[1][5]
- Save the change, then note the date. You cannot change it again for 60 days.[1]
Kick's article does not print the label of the button that saves the username, or say whether Kick asks for a 2FA code when you save. For the bio on the same page it says to enter your text and click Edit.[1] Use whatever confirm button your screen shows.
# Why Kick will not let you change it
Kick's help pages give four reasons a username change does not go through. Kick's sign-up article also warns, without detail, that "changing your username later may have limits".[5]
| What stops you | Kick's rule | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 2FA is off | 2FA must be on to change a username | Turn on 2FA, then try again |
| You changed it recently | One change every 60 days | Wait until 60 days have passed |
| You are in the app | Account settings are browser only | Open kick.com in a browser |
| The name is taken | Usernames must be free | Try a variation or add numbers |
Sources for the table: the 2FA rule from Kick's profile and 2FA articles,[1][2] the 60-day limit from the profile article,[1] the browser rule from Kick's mobile app guide,[6] and the taken-name advice from Kick's sign-up article, which lists "Username already taken" as a common problem.[5]
# Turning on 2FA, and losing your 2FA device
Kick's 2FA article says it near the top: "2FA will be required if you plan on changing your username."[2] It walks through the setup with an authenticator app: "For this tutorial, we will use Google Authenticator, which is available for both Android and Apple devices".[2]
- Open your security page at kick.com/settings/security.[2]
- Click Enable 2FA.[2]
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or enter the code into it by hand, then click Continue Setup.[2]
- Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and click Continue Setup again.[2]
If Kick says the code is invalid, its advice is: "Make sure the date and time are accurate on the device generating the 2FA codes." It adds that "Codes are generated every 60 seconds", so type the code the app is showing now.[2]
If you lost the phone with your authenticator app, Kick asks you to email its support team "from the email address associated with your KICK account so we can remove 2FA for you." The address on the page is support@kick.com.[2] The page gives no time frame for that.
# Changing your Kick username on a phone
The Kick app is not where you do this. Kick's guide to the mobile app says: "Some actions are not available in the mobile app and must be done through your browser at kick.com". The list that follows includes "Adjusting your account settings — profile information, security settings, notification preferences, and other account controls".[6] Both the username and 2FA sit in those settings.[1][2]
- Open Safari, Chrome or any other browser on the phone and go to kick.com. Sign in.[6]
- Check 2FA at kick.com/settings/security and turn it on if needed.[2]
- Go to kick.com/settings/profile and change Username under Basic Details.[1]
- Save, then go back to the app. The app guide does not say whether you need to sign out and in again to see the new name there.[6]
# Username, channel name or display name?
Kick's help pages use three words for what you are changing, and they do not all describe it the same way.
| Kick article | What it calls it | Limit it gives |
|---|---|---|
| How to update your profile, May 22, 2026 | Username, and in the next line channel name | Once every 60 days, 2FA required |
| Managing your Viewer profile, May 12, 2026 | Display name | Each 60 days |
| Viewer profile and privacy settings, August 27, 2026 | Display name | None given |
| How to enable 2FA, May 4, 2026 | Username | 2FA required |
The quotes behind the rows. The profile article: "Your channel name can only be updated once every 60 days."[1] The May viewer article lists "Display name: What other users see when you appear in chat or on a channel" and adds "it can be change each 60 days if you want."[3] The August viewer article keeps the same display name line and drops the 60-day part.[4] None of them says the limit was removed.
What this means in practice. Kick's sign-up article says "Your username is how other Viewers, Chatters, and Streamers will see you on KICK."[5] The pages read for this guide do not say whether a separate display name field exists next to the username, or whether changing capital letters alone counts as a change. If your settings show both fields, assume the 60-day limit applies to each until Kick says otherwise.
# Choosing a name Kick will accept
With 60 days before the next change, the new name is worth a few minutes of thought. Kick's pages set three limits on what it can be.
- It has to be appropriate. Kick's Community Guidelines summary: "Usernames and profile information must remain appropriate".[10]
- It cannot imitate another streamer. Kick lists impersonation among the things that get accounts suspended, described as "using usernames deliberately similar to other Streamers, or pretending to be someone you are not".[9]
- It has to be free. If it is taken, Kick suggests a variation or added numbers.[5]
Kick's privacy article adds one piece of advice for viewers: "Avoid using your real name as your username unless you are comfortable with it being public".[4] Your username is visible to anyone on Kick.[3]
Length and allowed characters. None of the Kick help articles read for this guide states a minimum or maximum length, or which characters a username may contain. One third-party guide gives a range; see Section 8.
# What to update after you rename
Kick's help pages say little about what happens to the old name. Here is what they do show, and what they leave open.
- Embedded players. Kick's embed code is built on your username. The player address is player.kick.com followed by your name, and Kick's instruction is: "Replace YOUR_USERNAME with your actual KICK username."[7] If your stream is embedded on a website, change the name in that code.
- Links on other sites. Bio links, Discord, X and YouTube descriptions that use your old Kick address need the new one. Kick's pages read for this guide do not say whether the old address forwards to the new one.
- Your viewers and moderators. Tell them before and after. Tell people before and after the change so they can find you. For managing your moderators on Kick, see how to mod someone on Kick.
What Kick does not say. None of the Kick help articles read on 7 October 2026 says whether your old username becomes free for someone else to take, whether old links redirect, or how followers and past broadcasts are affected. Two third-party guides answer those questions with confidence; Section 8 sets out what they claim. Until Kick documents it, the safe check is to open your old channel address in a private browser window right after the change and see what loads.
You set the speed and window
Streamrise sells Kick viewers. You set the delivery speed and window in the dashboard, from 30 minutes to a month. No Kick password needed, just your channel link, so after a rename use the new one. Kick's suspension article lists botting among the things that get accounts suspended. Read it and decide for yourself.
- 30 min to a month, you set the window
- No Kick password needed
- Per-order delivery log
# Where other guides say more than Kick does
Google's first page for how to change username on kick, checked on 7 October 2026, has Kick's profile article first, then mostly YouTube videos and Reddit threads. Two full articles from outside Kick rank for it: HandleGrab on Google's first page and Social Age Checker on Bing's. Both get the basics right in places, and both state things that Kick's help pages do not.
| Question | Third-party guide says | Kick's pages say |
|---|---|---|
| How often can you change it? | HandleGrab: Kick may enforce waiting periods | Once every 60 days |
| Is 2FA needed? | HandleGrab: not mentioned | Yes, 2FA must be on |
| Allowed length and characters? | HandleGrab: 4 to 24 characters | Not stated in the pages read |
| How do you set up 2FA? | Social Age Checker: app or SMS | Authenticator app; SMS not mentioned |
| Is there a display name? | Social Age Checker: no | Viewer articles list one |
| Do old links redirect? | Both: no | Not stated in the pages read |
The quotes behind the rows. HandleGrab: "Kick may enforce waiting periods between username changes to prevent abuse.", "4-24 characters, letters, numbers, hyphens, underscores only" and "URLs with your old username won't redirect automatically."[11] Its steps do not mention 2FA. Social Age Checker: "choose an authenticator app or SMS verification", "there’s no separate “display name” apart from your username" and "won’t redirect to the new one".[12] Kick: "Your channel name can only be updated once every 60 days.",[1] "To change your username, 2FA must be enabled on your account."[2] and the Display name line in both viewer profile articles.[3][4]
The rows marked not stated are not proof the guides are wrong. They mean the claim could not be checked against Kick's own pages. Social Age Checker is right on the points Kick does document: the 60-day limit, the 2FA rule and using the browser rather than the app.[12]
# The bottom line
Two rules decide whether a Kick username change works: 2FA has to be on, and 60 days have to have passed since the last change.[2][1] Do it in a browser, on desktop or phone, because the app does not have account settings.[6] Pick the name carefully, update any embedded player and links that use the old one,[7] and treat claims about redirects and released names as unconfirmed until Kick documents them.
# FAQ
How do I change my username on Kick?
Turn on 2FA, open your Profile Information page on kick.com, change Username under Basic Details and save. On a phone, do it in the browser, not the app.
How often can you change your Kick username?
Once every 60 days, according to Kick's profile article. Kick applies the same 60-day limit to your account email.
Why can't I change my Kick username?
Most often 2FA is off, or you changed the name less than 60 days ago. It also fails if you try in the app, or if the new name is already taken.
Do I need 2FA to change my Kick username?
Yes. Kick's 2FA article says 2FA must be enabled on your account to change your username. Turn it on at kick.com/settings/security.
Can I change my Kick username in the mobile app?
No. Kick's app guide says account settings, including profile information and security settings, must be changed through a browser at kick.com. That works on a phone too.
How do I change my Kick username on iPhone?
Open kick.com in Safari or another browser, sign in, check 2FA under security settings, then change Username on the profile settings page and save.
How do I change my email on Kick?
It is in the same Basic Details part of your Profile Information page as the username. Kick allows an email change once every 60 days.
Is a Kick display name different from a username?
Kick's pages do not settle it. Its viewer profile articles list a display name, while its profile article and 2FA article only talk about the username. The May viewer article puts the same 60-day limit on the display name.
I lost my 2FA device. Can I still change my username?
Not until you can sign in with 2FA again. Kick asks you to email support@kick.com from the address on your account so it can remove 2FA for you.
Will I lose followers if I change my Kick username?
Kick's help pages read for this guide do not say. Third-party guides say followers stay with the account, but that is not documented by Kick.
Can someone take my old Kick username?
Kick's help pages do not say whether an old username is released. Two third-party guides say it is. Treat it as possible and decide before you rename.
