# The short answer: two ways to mod someone
Both routes do the same thing. The chat command is faster during a stream, and the dashboard page is easier when you want to check who already has the role.
| Route | What to do | Where it works |
|---|---|---|
| Chat command | Type /mod followed by the username in your own chat. /unmod removes the role | Web and the KICK Mobile App. Not the Go Live streaming app, where chat is read-only |
| Kick Dashboard | Community, then Moderators, then Add New. Search for the viewer, select them and click Add. Remove takes the role away | Web |
| Direct address | dashboard.kick.com/channel/roles/moderator, the address Kick gives in How to moderate your KICK chat | Web |
| Who can do it | The channel owner only. Moderators cannot add or remove other moderators | Everywhere |

# How to make someone a moderator, step by step
With the chat command. This is the quickest way during a stream.
- Open your own channel's chat while logged in as the channel owner. Kick lists /mod for Channel Owners only.[3]
- Type /mod followed by the username. Kick writes it as /mod <username>.[1] Typing a forward slash on its own brings up the commands available to you: "You can easily access the list of commands by typing / (forward slash) into chat."[3]
- Type the username exactly. For /ban, /unban and /timeout Kick says "The username is required and case-sensitive."[1] It does not say the same of /mod. Its command reference only notes that "commands are case-sensitive in some cases",[3] so copying the name exactly as it appears in chat is the safe choice.
- Send the message. The role applies to your channel only.
With the Kick Dashboard. Use this when you are not live or want to see the full list.
- Open the Kick Dashboard on the web. Expand the Community group in the left sidebar and select Moderators.[1] Kick's other moderation article gives the page's address: dashboard.kick.com/channel/roles/moderator.[2]
- Click Add New in the top-right corner of the page. A row with a search field appears.[1]
- Search for the viewer, select the right account and click Add.[1]
Kick describes the location of that page in four different ways. Besides the two above, its Creator Dashboard guide puts moderators under Roles: "Add or remove roles, including Moderators, VIP Badges, and OG Badges."[5] Its Emergency moderation tools article says to "Open chat moderation settings".[6] Only How to moderate your KICK chat gives a direct address. VIP and OG badges are handled on the same Roles pages, and their limits are covered in the guide to Kick badges.
# How to remove a moderator and see who your mods are
- By command: type /unmod followed by the username. Kick's command reference gives the same answer in its troubleshooting section for removing a moderator's permissions.[3]
- From the dashboard: on the Moderators page, click Remove on the same row as the moderator's username.[1]
Seeing who your moderators are. The Moderators page in your dashboard is where the current list sits, since that is where Kick tells you to find a moderator in order to remove them.[2] Anyone else can get a partial view from the Active chatter list in a channel's chat. It groups active chatters with Moderators first and has a Mods filter, but it is available on the web only, and in Kick's definition active "means someone who has chatted within the last 30 minutes".[8] A moderator who is quiet in chat will not appear there.
Seeing what your moderators did. The Mod Actions section of the Creator Dashboard shows bans and unbans, timeouts, stream changes, chat rule changes and actions such as deleted messages and polls.[5]
# What Kick moderators can and cannot do
Kick's command reference sums it up: "Most commands are available to both Channel Owners and Moderators." The ones reserved for owners are "typically those that affect Mod team membership, badges, or KICK Partner features".[3] Other help articles add the rules for channel points, predictions, pinned messages, clips and VODs.
| Action | Moderators? | What Kick says |
|---|---|---|
| Ban, unban and time out chatters | Yes | /ban, /unban and /timeout are listed for Channel Owners and Moderators |
| Delete messages and clear chat | Yes | Messages can be deleted by Channel Owners, Moderators and KICK Staff. /clear is listed for both |
| Slow, followers-only and emotes-only mode | Yes | All listed for Channel Owners and Moderators |
| Subscribers-only mode | Pages disagree | The command reference lists /subonly for Channel Owners only. How to moderate your KICK chat includes sub-only in what Moderators can enable |
| Change stream title and category | Yes | /title and /category are listed for both. Title and category changes appear in the Mod Actions Feed |
| Polls and predictions | Yes | /poll, /polldelete and /prediction are listed for both. A moderator who joined a prediction cannot manage it |
| Channel Points reward requests | Yes | Moderators can mark rewards complete, reject them and pause redemptions |
| Delete pinned messages | Yes | Pinned messages can be deleted by Moderators and the Channel Owner |
| Blocked terms | Yes | Channel Owners and Moderators can block words, on the web only |
| Add or remove moderators | No | /mod and /unmod are for Channel Owners |
| Give VIP or OG badges | No | /vip and /og are for Channel Owners |
| Raid another channel | No | /raid is listed for Channel Owners |
| Multistreaming and KPP toggles | No | /multi and /kpp are for Channel Owners with KICK Partner status |
| Delete clips | No | Clips can only be deleted by the channel owner |
| Pin VODs | No | Only the channel owner can pin VODs |
Sources for the table: the chat commands reference,[3] How to moderate your KICK chat,[2] the Moderation features guide,[1] the channel points guide,[9] the predictions guide,[10] the KICKs guide,[11] the clips article[12] and the VOD pinning article.[13] On predictions, Kick's wording is: "Moderators who have participated in a Prediction will not be able to manage that Prediction."[10] On clips: "Clips can only be deleted by the channel owner."[12]
Chat modes do not apply to moderators. "Moderators are not affected by chat modes."[3] A moderator can keep typing in followers-only, subscribers-only or slow mode, which matters when you switch a mode on to stop a raid or spam wave. How raids work on Kick, including why moderators cannot start one, is in the Kick raid guide.
Commands and emotes. Kick's chat guide for viewers mentions "Custom commands set by the Streamer or their Moderators (these vary by channel)",[14] and its Community Guidelines summary makes channel owners responsible for "Emotes (whether created by you or your Moderators)".[15] Neither page explains how a moderator creates a command or an emote. The rules emotes must follow are in the guide to adding emotes on Kick.
# Where Kick's help pages disagree
The articles that describe moderation were written at different times and do not always match. The differences that affect a moderator are listed below, with what each page says.
| Question | One Kick page says | Another Kick page says |
|---|---|---|
| Is the /timeout number in seconds or minutes? | Seconds. KICK chat commands (July 9, 2026) and How to moderate your KICK chat (May 22, 2026) both use /timeout username 600 for 10 minutes | Minutes. Moderation features guide (May 22, 2026): a number between 1 and 10,080, equal to 7 days |
| How long can a timeout be? | Up to 10,080 minutes, or 7 days. Moderation features guide | Typically a few seconds to several hours. Emergency moderation tools on KICK (May 12, 2026) |
| Can moderators turn on subscribers-only chat? | No. KICK chat commands lists /subonly for Channel Owners only | Yes. How to moderate your KICK chat includes sub-only in what Moderators can enable |
| Where do you add a moderator? | Community, then Moderators (Moderation features guide), or dashboard.kick.com/channel/roles/moderator (How to moderate your KICK chat) | Roles (Understanding your KICK Creator Dashboard, July 13, 2026), or chat moderation settings (Emergency moderation tools on KICK) |
| Are usernames in commands case-sensitive? | Yes, for /ban, /unban and /timeout. Moderation features guide | In some cases. KICK chat commands |
The timeout row matters most. How to moderate your KICK chat says of its example: "The time is in seconds."[2] The command reference agrees: "Temporarily prevents the user from chatting (time in seconds)".[3] The Moderation features guide says the minutes value "must be a number between 1 and 10,080, which is equal to 7 days."[1] Read in minutes, /timeout username 600 is a ten-hour timeout. Read in seconds, it is ten minutes. Kick's Emergency moderation tools article says only that "Time outs typically range from a few seconds to several hours and end automatically."[6]
Third-party guides add their own errors. Two guides that come up for these searches list /subscribers as the command for subscriber-only chat,[16][17] while Kick's command reference lists /subonly on and /subonly off.[3] One of them also gives the dashboard address as dashboard.kick.com/community/roles/moderator and says moderators can run /raid.[16] Kick's own pages give /channel/roles/moderator and list /raid for Channel Owners.[2][3]
# The Moderator Dashboard, AI moderation and unban requests
The Moderator Dashboard. Kick says "All tools available in the Moderator Dashboard are also available in the Streamer Dashboard." and "The Moderator Dashboard is available only on web".[1] It has four main panels: Stream Preview, Chat, the Mod Actions Feed and the Activity Feed. A moderator of several channels can switch between them from the Channel Menu in the top-left corner. The right sidebar holds the chat mode toggles, Advanced Bot Protection and Blocked Terms.[1] None of the help articles we checked gives a direct address for the Moderator Dashboard.
What the Mod Actions Feed logs. According to the same guide, it records title and category changes, blocked terms added or deleted, bans and unbans, mature mode toggles, timeouts, deleted messages, chat mode toggles and allow-links toggles, with who took the action and when.[1]
AI moderation. One Kick help article mentions it: "KICK provides various AI Moderation settings that Streamers can access from Chat Settings in their Creator Dashboard." It adds that "Streamers can choose filtering levels for each category", and that filters for gibberish or spam are available, "which helps reduce the workload for moderators".[18] That article does not list the categories or say whether AI moderation can be switched off completely, and no other article among the 154 we checked mentions AI Moderation. Kick's Emergency moderation tools article refers to AutoMod and keyword filters, without saying whether that is the same feature.[6]
Unban requests now reach moderators. A viewer banned from a channel's chat can click Request Unban and explain why the ban should be lifted. "Your appeal goes straight to that channel's streamer and moderators", who review it from their own moderation tools. A viewer can have one open request per channel, and "You can submit a new Unban Request 30 days after a rejection."[19] Platform-wide suspensions are a separate process handled by Kick.
# Before you give someone the mod role
- Pick people who are there when you stream. Kick's own list of what makes a good moderator includes: "Available during your streams — a Moderator who is rarely around cannot help much".[2]
- You do not have to rush. "You do not need to add Moderators on day one."[2]
- Agree on how your team times people out. Because Kick's pages disagree on the /timeout unit, ask moderators to use the profile timeout options or to check the expiration date in the Banned Chatters list after using the command.[1]
- Set Chat Rules and Blocked Terms before you need them. Chat Rules are set under Community, then Chat Settings, in the Kick Dashboard, and can be up to 255 characters.[1] Kick's pre-stream checklist also asks you to make sure your moderators know they may be moderating today.[6]
- Do not put your own details in the filters. Kick warns: "Do not filter your own real name, address, or personal information."[2]
- Review the Mod Actions log. It shows what each moderator did, so you can check timeouts and bans after a busy stream.[5]
- Remove the role when someone steps back. /unmod or the Remove button on the Moderators page.[1]
Moderators keep chat healthy. Viewers make it grow
Streamrise delivers Kick viewers over a window you set in the dashboard, from 30 minutes to a month, and needs only your channel link, not your Kick password. Kick's Community Guidelines prohibit using bots, engagement manipulation or third-party tools to artificially inflate views, followers or interactions. Read them and decide for yourself.
- 30 min to a month, you set the window
- No password
# The bottom line
To mod someone on Kick, type /mod and their username in your own chat, or add them on the Moderators page of the Kick Dashboard. Only the channel owner can do it, and /unmod or Remove takes the role away.[1][2] Moderators can handle almost everything in chat, but not badges, raids, clips or the mod team itself.[3] Before your team starts timing people out, settle the one point Kick's own pages contradict: whether the number after /timeout means seconds or minutes.
