# Which streak problem do you have?
Watch Streak problems fall into six patterns, and each has a different documented cause. Find yours in the table, then jump to the section that covers it. Everything here comes from Twitch's Watch Streaks page unless the table says otherwise.[1]
| What you see | Cause to check first | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No streak at all on one channel | The channel is not monetized, has Channel Points off, or does not have the feature yet | Nothing on your side. Check whether the channel shows Channel Points |
| You watched, but the number did not go up | You recovered the streak, the stream was under 10 minutes, or it started less than 30 minutes after the last one | Watch the next full live stream |
| The streak reset after you missed a stream | Your streak was under 3, the 24-hour window passed, or there was no VOD or clip to watch | Recovery only works inside the rules in section 4 |
| You watched the VOD and nothing happened | Too little watch time, or it has not been processed yet | Watch longer and wait a few hours |
| You never got a warning that your streak was at risk | Twitch paused these notifications in November 2025, or Recommended Live notifications are off | Do not rely on the warning. Track the schedule yourself |
| It breaks on Firefox, a TV or the mobile app | Tracking protection, casting or app tracking | Watch in a desktop browser with the tab in front |
# The rules, collected from three Twitch pages
Twitch spreads the Watch Streak rules across a help page for viewers, a Channel Points guide for viewers and posts on its @TwitchSupport account on X. The help page links to a Channel Points Guide, but the link goes to the creator version, which does not mention Watch Streaks at all.[1][3] The bonus amounts are only on the viewer guide.[2] Here is everything in one place.
First, the channel has to qualify: "Watch Streaks can be earned on monetized channels where Channel Points are enabled." You also have to be logged in.[1] Then each broadcast has to meet two conditions set by the stream itself, and you have to watch it:
- The stream lasts long enough. "Each stream must be at least 10 minutes long".[1]
- There is a gap before it. "At least 30 minutes must pass between the end of one stream and the start of the next".[1]
- You watch it. "You need to watch each consecutive broadcast to maintain your streak".[1] Twitch does not say for how long.
| Rule | Number | Twitch source |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum stream length | 10 minutes | Watch Streaks and the viewer Channel Points guide |
| Gap needed between two streams | 30 minutes | Watch Streaks and the viewer Channel Points guide |
| Bonus at streak 2, 3, 4 and 5 or more | 300, 350, 400 and 450 Channel Points | Viewer Channel Points guide only |
| Smallest streak that can be recovered | 3 consecutive streams | Watch Streaks |
| When the at-risk notification arrives | About 45 minutes after the missed stream ends | Watch Streaks. Paused in November 2025 according to Twitch Support on X |
| Recovery window | 24 hours from when the first missed stream ended | Watch Streaks |
| Watch time for a clip or Story | 5 seconds | Watch Streaks |
| Watch time for the VOD of the missed stream | 5 minutes, with users reporting 1 to 3 hours | Watch Streaks |
| Watch time for a new live stream inside the window | 5 minutes | Watch Streaks |
| Times a viewer can share a streak | Once per stream | Twitch Support on X, 2023 |
| Minimum watch time for a live stream to extend a streak | Not published | None of the pages we read |
The bonus table stops at 5 or more, worth 450 points,[2] and the milestone list on the Watch Streaks page also ends at "Watch Streak 5+".[1] Twitch adds that its earn rates "are subject to change."[2]
# Why your streak did not go up
Four causes fit what Twitch documents. Three of them mean the streak is working as Twitch designed it.
- You recovered it. "Recovering your Watch Streak maintains your current streak count but does not increase it." If the channel goes live during your recovery window, "you must still recover your streak first before the new stream will count toward increasing your streak count."[1]
- The stream was too short. A stream under 10 minutes does not meet the rule above.[1] A quick test broadcast or a stream that crashed early would fall under this.
- It was a restart, not a new stream. If the streamer went live again less than 30 minutes after the last stream ended, the second session does not meet the gap rule.[1] Twitch does not say what happens to your streak then. Our reading is that the restart does not count as a new step.
- Your watch time was not recorded. Twitch lists ad blockers, inactive tabs, casting and the mobile app as things that can stop tracking. Section 5 covers each one.[1]
How long do you need to watch? Twitch does not say. Its only watch-time figures are for recovery. The guides that rank for this search do not give a figure either. One says: "Once you've watched enough of an eligible stream for Twitch to count your participation, your streak continues behind the scenes."[7] If you want a number to aim for, the only live-stream figure Twitch publishes is the 5 minutes that recovers a streak during the window.[1] Treat that as a floor, not a guarantee.
# Your streak reset: how recovery works
Recovery was added later. Twitch says: "Previously, missing even one stream would reset your Watch Streak to zero."[1] Its viewer Channel Points guide, last published in October 2025, still says: "Be sure not to miss a broadcast or the Watch Streak will be broken!"[2] The Watch Streaks page is the newer one, and it describes these rules.
- Only streaks of 3 or more. "You can recover your Watch Streak if you originally had a Watch Streak of 3 consecutive streams or more with that channel." A streak of 2 cannot be saved.[1]
- 24 hours. You have to act "within 24 hours from when the first missed stream ended".[1]
- Stories and clips: 5 seconds. "Watch at least 5 seconds of any story with the Watch Streaks icon to restore your streak." The same 5 seconds applies to clips with the icon. On the web, Twitch says to click "Open Stories" in the upper corner of the left navigation bar.[1]
- The VOD: 5 minutes. "Watch at least 5 minutes of the VOD of the missed stream to restore your streak." It has to be the missed stream itself: "Highlights of the missed stream, or content from collections do not count towards Watch Streak recovery."[1]
- A new live stream: 5 minutes. If the channel goes live again inside the window, 5 minutes of that stream also recovers the streak.[1]
If the missed stream left nothing to watch, recovery is impossible: "If no recorded content is available from the missed stream, you won't receive a recovery notification and your streak will reset. This can happen if the creator doesn't enable VODs or if no clips were created from the stream."[1] DJ streams have their own rule: "VOD-based Watch Streak recovery is not available for DJ streams." Clips and Stories still work for them.[1] If you are not sure where to find a channel's clips, the Twitch clips guide covers where they are listed.
The warning you may not get. The Watch Streaks page says that if your streak is at risk, "we'll send a notification about 45 minutes after a missed stream ends", and asks you to keep Recommended Live notifications on.[1] On 12 November 2025 Twitch Support posted on X: "We paused streak-risk notifications due to streamer feedback on volume".[4] The help page was updated after that, but it does not mention the pause, and we found no Twitch statement that the notifications came back. Do not count on a warning. If you missed a stream, go and recover straight away.
# Where you watch matters: Firefox, TV, mobile, background tabs
Twitch's troubleshooting list has a heading for exactly this, "My Streak Reset Even Though I Watched the Stream", and puts it down to how the watching was tracked.[1] These are the documented causes and what to do about each one.
| Setup | What Twitch says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Enhanced Tracking Protection can block the events that track watch time | Turn it off for twitch.tv |
| Casting or a smart TV app | May not reliably count toward Watch Streaks | Use a browser for channels whose streak you care about |
| Mobile app | Watching on mobile may not always register properly | Use a browser where you can |
| Background tab | Inactive tabs can interfere with tracking | Keep the stream tab in front |
| Ad blocker or unstable connection | Can interfere with tracking | Allow twitch.tv, or watch on a steadier connection |
Firefox. This one is only on the viewer Channel Points guide, not on the Watch Streaks page: "Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection feature can block the events that Twitch uses to track your watch time." The fix it gives is to click the Shield Icon in the address bar on twitch.tv, turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for the site, and refresh the page.[2] The same guide says that if you lost a streak before fixing this, you may be able to recover it. Firefox is one of the four desktop browsers covered in our guide to the browsers Twitch supports. The streak problem comes from this one privacy setting.
Background tabs. Twitch's recommended setup is to "watch directly in a web browser on desktop with the tab active."[1] If your browser pauses Twitch when you switch tabs, the guide to Twitch pausing in background tabs explains why that happens.
Chatting does not protect you. Twitch says: "Even active participation (chatting, moderator actions, gifting bits) doesn't guarantee streak tracking will work properly."[1] If that happens more than once, Twitch asks you to contact Support with the channel name, roughly how long you watched, whether you were chatting, and your device and browser.
# Where Twitch's pages disagree with each other
Part of the confusion around Watch Streaks comes from Twitch itself. When we read its pages on 25 September 2026, they disagreed in five places, and in two of them the Watch Streaks page disagrees with itself.
| Topic | One Twitch source says | Another Twitch source says |
|---|---|---|
| Short streams | Each stream must be at least 10 minutes long (Watch Streaks, requirements) | Streams under 5 minutes may cause tracking problems (Watch Streaks, troubleshooting) |
| VOD watch time | 5 minutes of the VOD restores the streak (Watch Streaks) | Some users need 1 to 3 hours (same page) |
| Streamer turns the feature off | Viewers still earn Channel Points for Watch Streaks (Twitch Support on X, 2023) | Your Watch Streak may reset (Watch Streaks, 2026) |
| Missing a stream | The Watch Streak will be broken (viewer Channel Points guide, 2025) | Streaks of 3 or more can be recovered (Watch Streaks, 2026) |
| At-risk notifications | Sent about 45 minutes after a missed stream (Watch Streaks, 2026) | Paused due to streamer feedback (Twitch Support on X, November 2025) |
Two of these matter in practice. The first is the short-stream rule. The requirements say "Each stream must be at least 10 minutes long", while the troubleshooting section warns that "Streams lasting less than 5 minutes may cause tracking problems" and the FAQ blames "No Content Eligible" errors partly on streams "under 5 minutes".[1] So a stream between 5 and 10 minutes long is in a grey zone that Twitch does not explain.
The second is what happens when a streamer switches Watch Streaks off. In 2023 Twitch Support wrote: "Streamers can turn off the feature for viewers, but viewers will still earn Channel Points for Watch Streaks".[5] The 2026 help page lists "The streamer disables Watch Streaks" as a reason "Your Watch Streak may reset".[1] Both can be true if the setting hides the feature in chat but the count keeps running and resets later. Twitch does not say which it is.
The same help page also has two small inconsistencies. Its FAQ describes a "4-consecutive day streak" even though streaks count broadcasts, not days.[1] And on mobile it says two things: in one place "Watching on mobile may not always register properly", in another "For best results, watch directly in a web browser on desktop or mobile."[1]
# For streamers: what you control
If your viewers keep asking why their streaks broke, several of the documented causes are on your side of the stream. Here is what the pages we read say you control.
- Whether streaks exist at all. They need a monetized channel with Channel Points on.[1] Twitch's creator guide says "Channel Points is available to all monetized streamers" and that you can turn the whole program off with the Enable Channel Points option.[3] Twitch lists turning off Channel Points, turning off Watch Streaks and losing Partner or Affiliate status as things that can reset your viewers' streaks.[1]
- Short and restarted streams. Streams under 10 minutes, or starting less than 30 minutes after the last one ended, do not meet the streak rules.[1] After a crash, going back live within 30 minutes probably keeps the session from counting as a new stream. That is our reading. Twitch does not spell it out. If OBS drops and reconnects quickly, the guide to OBS disconnecting from Twitch explains how long Twitch keeps a dropped stream open before ending it.
- Whether a missed stream can be recovered. If you do not save VODs and nobody clipped the stream, viewers who missed it lose their streak.[1] A post on Threads from October 2025 showed Twitch warning streamers to create clips, otherwise viewers would lose their streaks.[9] Keeping VOD storage on and clipping each stream gives viewers something to recover with.
- Sharing in chat. Viewers can share a streak "once per stream",[5] and in November 2025 Twitch said streamers would soon get "more control on Watch Streak sharing, including in chat".[4] None of the Twitch help pages we read shows where the Watch Streak setting is. A streamer's Threads post from November 2025 put it on the Channel Points settings page, in the Viewer Rewards section of the Creator Dashboard, and said viewers keep earning streak points when it is off.[10] Twitch's creator guide confirms that Channel Points sit under Viewer Rewards.[3]
- Alerts for shared streaks. Third-party tools can react when a viewer shares a streak. Streamer.bot, for example, has a trigger that fires when a user shares their watch streak, as its docs put it: "Triggers when a user shares their watch streak".[11]
For a new channel, the first item is the real barrier. Monetization starts with Affiliate, and one of the four achievements is to "Reach a minimum of 3 average viewers over any 4 stream days in the last 30 days."[12] Our Twitch Affiliate requirements page explains how each achievement is counted. Once you are monetized, the Channel Points setup guide covers the rewards side.
No monetized channel, no Watch Streaks
Streaks only run once a channel is monetized, and Affiliate starts with a steady average of viewers. Streamrise delivers Twitch viewers that join over a window you choose instead of arriving as one spike, and starts within minutes. Twitch's policy page calls artificial inflation of channel statistics a violation of its policies. Read it and decide for yourself.
- 30-day refill
- No password, ever
# Watch streaks are not sub streaks
A search for a Twitch streak can mean one of two different things, and the rules do not carry over. A Watch Streak counts consecutive broadcasts you watched. A subscription streak counts consecutive months you stayed subscribed, and Twitch says: "Your subscription streak is safe for 7 days after the date your subscription benefits expire."[8] Unlike a Watch Streak, a lost sub streak cannot be won back. Twitch says it cannot restore one after the 7 days.[8] If your sub badge streak is the one that broke, the guide to subscribing on Twitch covers renewals and Prime subs.
# The bottom line
Most broken streaks have a documented cause: a channel that does not qualify, a stream shorter than 10 minutes or restarted within 30, a recovery that holds the count instead of raising it, or tracking lost to Firefox, a TV or a background tab.[1][2] If yours broke, you have 24 hours from the end of the missed stream, and only if the streak was 3 or more.[1]
Do not wait for a warning. Twitch paused those notifications in November 2025 and has not said they are back in anything we read.[4] If you are the streamer, keep VODs on and clip your streams, so viewers who miss one have something to recover with.
# FAQ
Why is my Twitch watch streak not working?
Check the channel first. Streaks only exist on monetized channels with Channel Points on. Then check the stream: it must last at least 10 minutes and start at least 30 minutes after the last one ended. If both are fine, tracking is the likely cause: Firefox tracking protection, casting to a TV, the mobile app, an ad blocker or a background tab.
Why is my watch streak not increasing?
If you recovered the streak, it stays the same until you watch the next live stream. Twitch says recovery maintains the count but does not increase it. A stream under 10 minutes, or one that started less than 30 minutes after the last, also does not count.
How long do you have to watch for a Twitch watch streak?
Twitch does not publish a minimum watch time for a live stream. The 10 minutes often quoted is the minimum length of the stream. The only watch-time figures Twitch gives are for recovery: 5 seconds of a clip or Story, 5 minutes of the missed VOD, or 5 minutes of a new live stream.
How do I recover a Twitch watch streak?
If your streak was 3 or more, you have 24 hours from the end of the first missed stream. Watch at least 5 seconds of a clip or Story marked with the Watch Streaks icon, at least 5 minutes of the missed stream's VOD, or 5 minutes of a new live stream. Highlights do not count.
How many Channel Points does a watch streak give?
Twitch's viewer Channel Points guide lists 300 points at streak 2, 350 at streak 3, 400 at streak 4 and 450 at 5 or more. Twitch says its earn rates are subject to change.
Did Twitch remove watch streaks?
No. The Watch Streaks help page was last updated on 31 August 2026. What changed is that Twitch paused streak-risk notifications in November 2025, so you may not get a warning before a streak breaks.
Do Twitch watch streaks work on mobile?
They can, but Twitch says watching on mobile may not always register properly, and casting to a TV may not count. For the most reliable tracking it recommends a desktop web browser with the tab active. Recovery through Stories works in the mobile app.
How do streamers turn watch streaks on or off?
Streaks need a monetized channel with Channel Points on. Twitch's help pages we read do not show the Watch Streaks setting itself. One streamer reported finding it with the Channel Points settings under Viewer Rewards in the Creator Dashboard. In 2023 Twitch said viewers keep earning streak points when the feature is off, but its 2026 help page says turning it off may reset streaks.
Why didn't I get a notification that my streak was at risk?
Twitch Support said in November 2025 that it paused streak-risk notifications because of streamer feedback. The help page still describes them and says they need Recommended Live notifications on. Do not rely on the warning.
